THEME OF THE MONTH
This month our theme is WELLNESS.
We will be giving the students a Leadership challenge and part of it is to eat healthy. We are challenging each student to eat 30 servings of fresh fruit or vegetables every week, pick one week and document it and turn it in and you will receive a prize. What you eat effects how you feel for the day. Fruits and veggies are always a great choice. What will you do this month towards better wellness?
STUDENT OF THE
MONTH
Congratulations to Sara Smith! Sara is so willing to help and attends every event she possibly can. She has gotten her sister involved in Karate also. Sara always try's very hard and seldom misses a class. Great job on being Student of the Month.
Featured Item
We will be featuring “Back to School” items this month. We have some great new back packs and we still have some great shirts (especially for MMA Days). Donut forget TAX FREE weekend is August 13th and 14th.
Staff Seminar
If you attended our breaking seminar you know how fantastic they are, filled with awesome instruction and new ideas. We will be having a Staff seminar on the 27th. You do not want to miss this opportunity to learn new skills and bone up on some you already know. We will have a sign up sheet closer to the event. Cost is $10 for Leaders, $15 for Masters and $20 for anyone else who would like to attend.
OPEN HOUSE/ANNIVERSARY
Get ready to PARTY! We are having our annual Open House event on 8/6 to celebrate the 9th anniversary of Middleburg Martial Arts. The event kicks off at 5:30PM we will have a water slide and hot dogs, the Parents Club will be selling cotton candy and you can “PIE” (for a $1 donation) your favorite Instructor or Black Belt. This event is free and open to the public. We will be having a special Self-defense Course at 6PM and an “Earn Your White Belt” class following at 6:45PM. Please feel free to invite your friends as you can still get raffle tickets for the $100. All non students need to have a permission slip filled out before participating in either class. Please make arrangements to supervise your child as we will not have enough staff to do so.
CLUB THEME
All club members will be working on tumbling or rolls and falls on Mondays and Tuesdays and sparring on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Leaders will get to work with Master Lappin and Michael Henschel on 8/13. They will be doing Tonfas. Ms. Dot will be teaching a tumbling class to the Masters Club on the 20th. Please make sure you bring your proper gear and weapons.
Summer Attendance
We will be giving out special Patches at the Promotion Party in September for those who have perfect attendance this summer. Perfect attendance consists of 2 classes per week for the entire 9 weeks of summer. Please make sure you make up any classes that you miss so you can qualify for this achievement.
After School Program
Our AMP (After School Program) is filling up fast. Reserve your spot now. This is a fantastic alternative to traditional day care and your child gets their Karate classes included with the cost. PARENTS CLUB NEWS
The Parents Club hosted an AWESOME movie/game night last month and everyone had a lot of fun. We are all looking forward to the next one.
Special “THANKS” to the Parents Club for everything they did for the World Tournament.
The Parents Club will be selling cotton candy at the Open House Party as well as helping out with the events.
They will be selling food at the GUP test as well as having a 50/50 drawing. Food donations are welcome, just contact Joanne Manzi as to what is needed.
Our Wal-mart Demo is scheduled for 8/21 from 9:30AM until 1:30PM. You do not have to be there the whole time but if every parent and student did just one hour that would be GREAT!
Any questions or suggestions please e-mail Joanne Manzi at jmmanzi@fdn.com.

Battle of the Bands
Our 2nd Annual contest was a huge success. Thanks to Jasmine, Megan and Michael for all of the prep-work and to our helpers, Alvin, Sean, Zack, Dana, Hannah, Michelle and Bianca. A special thank you to John Richards for helping with all the music. I hope we did not miss anyone! Everyone had a lot of fun. Special congrats to our band winner “Fire at Will!”
