Testimonials
At Middleburg Martial Arts what we hold dear are the opinions of our students and their parents.
The following testimonials are from some of our students and parents.
Training at Middleburg Martial Arts has helped me in a variety of ways. For example, it has helped me to open up with people and give me a family-type setting. The people are friendly. Because of the training, I have become stronger, both physically and mentally. I learned the true meaning of discipline, which has helped with my studying in school. Training has also been an outlet for unwanted emotions. In addition, I have gained more confidence in myself and built up my self-esteem.
--Cami
Five things that Middleburg Martial Arts have taught me are
1) Discipline to do my school work
2) Self-defense against bullies
3) Respect for adults
4) Honesty not to cheat on tests
5) To try and always be helpful to my parents
--Isaiah
Training at Middleburg Martial Arts has helped me greatly. I have learned better time management skills. Instead of completing my homework late at night, I work on my assignments after school. By training in the studio, I have also notice my physical strength improving. As a martial artist, I possess a greater sense of self-control. I have even more goals than I did before joining the Middleburg Martial Arts studio. Although I was fairly confident before, I can see my self-confidence rising as my skills increase.
--Amanda
Karate at Middleburg Martial Arts has helped me learn respect and obedience. It has also helped me concentrate better, learn integrity, to persevere, and use self-control…especially self-control. For instance, if I didn’t get something that I had wanted for a very long time, and it was Christmas or something, I’d totally snap! But thanks to karate, I’m fine with it!
--Cody
Going to karate has helped me in many ways, but here are a few. Karate has helped me stay fit and healthy. Karate has also helped my self confidence and shyness. Another thing karate has helped me with is my flexibility. When I first started I had zero flexibility, now I’m working on it. Another thing training has helped me with is my memory. Lastly, karate has helped me to recognize the importance of respect.
--Marin
I am learning many great things at Middleburg Martial Arts. Tang Soo Doo has helped me with self defense. Now I know how to defend myself from bullies. Tang Soo Doo has helped me learn the necessary discipline to become a better martial artist and better student. I have learned self-control. Now I am doing better in school. Another thing I have learned is respect by saying the 7 magic words (Yes Ma’am, Yes Sir, No Ma’am, No Sir, Please, Thank You, and You’re Welcome). I have gained many friendships in the after school and summer camp programs. The Black Belts have shown me what kind of person I want to be.
--Tripp
Karate helps me to learn how to know my form. I want to earn my next belt. If I know my form, I can be the student of the day. It is going to take a long time to get my black belt. Karate has helped me show respect. I really like karate.
--Aaron
Martial arts is not only appealing because of the visual stimulation of watching it performed, but also the physical and mental improvements in oneself while learning. I joined Middleburg Martial Arts to improve my physical well-being. While engaged in interesting activity, I am more apt to exercise and perform well. Over the past few months, my strength and endurance have greatly increased. In school I was already an A-B Honor Roll student, yet my grades have become higher still, while practicing Tang Soo Do. I am able to pay attention more in class, and focus on the tasks set before me. After the physical and mental improvements I have already noticed in myself, I am very excited to continue my success in these areas.
Amanda
All out effort.
To achieve anything in life requires effort. However achieving your best is, it requires all out effort. I don’t believe I understood the effort it would take to train in Tang Soo Do. I wasn’t sure if I had what it took to continue. Now, six months I am so glad I put in the effort. I’m healthier, happier and looking forward to higher achievements in this martial art.
Deena
I have chosen respect and obedience. Since I have been in Karate I have been more respectful and obedient by listening to my instructors and parents. Respect means treat someone the way you wanted to be treated. Obedience means to control yourself in everything you do. Like the dishes or learning new Karate moves and never forget what respect and obedience means.
Raylyn
How obedience to parents has helped me: I don’t talk back to her as much as I used to. I don’t try and talk or bribe my way out of whatever I had to do. I say yes and go do it that instant instead of doing it whenever I want. If I ask to do something and she says no, I don’t beg over and over to do it.
Chris
My name is Ashley, I just tested for my black belt, it feels like an amazing achievement because I wanted to quit a couple of times but I didn’t and if I did I would have been a quitter and I wouldn’t of liked that much ~Ashley
I have learned leadership skills and have achieved better grades maintaining A/B honor roll ~Jasmine
I was unable to sit still because of ADHD and martial arts has really helped me
~ Michael
Thank you guys very much. You have opened so many doors for me and I am always grateful.
~ Jarrett
Karate has helped me not to be a follower but a leader. I have also learned a new language and striking points. I will be learning so much more on the way. ~ Olivia
Karate has majorly impacted my life. My endurance rate has raised a lot since my first day I started. I have become a leader and I am no longer shy, talking in public is a breeze. 6 years ago I struggled in a group and now I take charge as if it was nothing. I’m in a lot better shape. The most important thing I have gained from karate is a second family. ~ Megan
Karate has helped me have more self- confidence because now I can speak in front of big groups of people. Another thing it’s helped me with is meeting new people. I used to be afraid of meeting new people but now I have the self- confidence. ~ Tristin
Karate at Middleburg Martial Arts has helped me with my confidence. I used to be the shyest person and I wouldn’t like going up to meet new people and talking in front of groups. Now I can do it because Middleburg Martial Arts has helped me with that. It has also helped me to be all out there when I never used to be. I have of friends here and I love going here. ~Nikki
Good Reasons to Keep Your Child Training in the Martial Arts
By Joseph Galea & Bert Casiano
There are many reasons to enroll your children and keep them training in the Martial Arts. Martial Arts builds self confidence and teaches discipline which will provide a solid foundation from which your children will develop strong character. While studying the Martial Arts is fun, children will be learning important lessons in values and respect that will shape how they view the world around them. And even though we teach to avoid confrontations, if the need arises, your children can be secure in their knowledge of how to defend themselves from physical harm. This is the power derived from the Martial Arts.
Martial Arts builds self-confidence. It is a physical and demanding sport. Children who participate and progress in the Martial Arts will develop a positive attitude that they can take with them to help accomplish other important tasks and face other challenges. Our school is dedicated to making your children feel accepted as well as motivated. We focus on providing children with a positive atmosphere where they can build their confidence, even after a bad day at school or playing a sport. It's a place where they'll find support when they feel down or discouraged. We are ready and able to give your children the additional support to face life's challenges and stay on the right path.
In addition to the structure you provide at home, Martial Arts also provides your child with discipline. This involves coming to class on time and following school rules and policy. It also concerns learning to respect themselves and others, which is an important goal that we strive to instill in our students. We teach children not to feel that they can't complete a task because it's too hard or because they've failed the first time. Instead we teach them to relax, regroup and give 100 percent effort again. The discipline that they learn helps them to stay focused and work hard to accomplish their goals.
Martial Arts is a tool that can help your children in other sports, as well as keeping them in shape and healthy. Many drills that we practice enhance skills they will need in other extracurricular activities. For example, proper balance and hand-eye coordination are skills that are essential in sports such as baseball, football, gymnastics and soccer. Martial Arts training can give your children the competitive edge.
Knowing that they can defend themselves if a problem arises is another benefit that your children derive from Martial Arts training. Martial Arts does not just teach kids how to defend themselves physically, but more importantly, how to avoid dangerous situations. Avoiding the situation rather than being in a physical confrontation is an important concept that instructors teach both indirectly and directly.
Through the Martial Arts, your children will learn many valuable lessons that will help them throughout their lives. And the best thing about it is that it's fun. They may not even realize that they are learning all these values. And it's not only enjoyable for the kids; it's also enjoyable for the parents. To watch your children learn new skills and watch them improve will fill you with pride. But why stay on the sidelines? Martial Arts is an activity that you can do as a family. It's a way of spending more quality time with your children, and that's invaluable in today's hectic world.
Martial Arts is an art form that has existed for many centuries and is taught around the world today. Its teachings are inspiring and unique. The values and lessons of Martial Arts can assist your children in becoming better citizens, and becoming better equipped to handle the many situations that they will face in their academic and personal lives.

As you know, both of my kids, Shelby and CJ are in your AMP program. CJ is in the Master's club as well. We attended the tournament today and I wanted to tell you how fantastic is was to be there. Not only did the kids do well, but more importantly they had fun and were proud to be a part of the Middleburg Martial Arts (MMA) family. We joined your studio back in February to try to help CJ with his disability. The progress he has made has been more than we could have imagined. He is growing into such a wonderful young man and we know that it is a combination of us working together to achieve a common goal. Shelby was so standoffish about joining, and now it's all she talks about. She has even said that she wants to earn a black belt too! :) She is proud of her work and gets very excited to know she will be going to the studio everyday after school.
Chris and I both agree that the best decision we made for them was walking into your studio. We would like to be involved as much as possible and are so happy to be a part of the MMA family.
On a side note, I observed at the tournament that when Mrs. Jan was talking, a lot of the kids were talking and cutting up. I did not see any of the MMA students doing so. That should be a testimonial to the lessons you teach and the level of respect you command.
Thank you for being such a bright light for young people!
Sincerely,
Lisa

I am so happy Chad is part of the mixed martial arts team. In addition to learning excellent self-defense techniques, Chad has improved his confidence, coordination and assertiveness through his mixed martial arts training. Archie and the other instructors continue to introduce new techniques while promoting good sportsmanship and respect in a fun and safe environment. I feel this training is a life long investment in my son's future.

Chris and I love the family atmosphere, the discipline, and the training. Archie has taught my child so much in the months he has been training him. I know if my child is ever caught in a situation he will be able to take care of himself. Archie has taught him great techniques and his self esteem is improved so much. He has become my little man. I am proud to be a part of Middleburg Martial Arts.

All instructors strive to know the kids on a personal level, and understand each student's strengths and limitations. This allows the instructors to push each student to their capabilities without overdoing it. The instructors truly care about each student and they are not just a number to them.

Normally I am so busy that I do not respond to a lot of my emails because of my work schedule; but I just had to respond and tell you that I think you all are doing a wonderful job. I also want to share with you that my son, Jonathan, has really missed not coming to your school the past few weeks. He tells me all the time he wants to return to your classes. I have seen a desire in him that I have never seen before; he often tells me of how he wants to reach his ultimate goal of being a black belt. I know that this is a direct result of what you and all of your instructors have taught him.
After I work out some scheduling issues that I have had over the summer, we hope to return to your classes very soon. Please know that we think you all are awesome! Hope to see you again soon.

I am writing to say "Thank you" for the time and effort that you have invested in me and my son over the past several months. I visited Middleburg Martial Arts because Drew began having problems in school and a friend suggested that Karate might be a good thing for him. Due to weekend visitation with his father, Drew had never participated in a team or group sport.
I enrolled Drew in classes and from the beginning you have maintained communication with me and have been a strong encourager to both of us. You helped him to set realistic goals and to prioritize and follow-through with his responsibilities both at home and at school. It has been a pleasure to celebrate Drew’s weekly accomplishments with you.
I am proud to share that Drew achieved Honor Roll and received the “PEP” award at Tynes Elementary this 9 weeks. He also brought home awards for Sportsmanship, The Presidents National Fitness, and earned the highest AR award for reading in all of fifth grade this year.
I can say with confidence that you and the staff at Middleburg Martial Arts have had a huge participating roll in the "turn-around" and change of attitude in my son. Friends and family have commented that he seems to have "grown-up" some over the past several months.
Drew enjoys and is very committed to the Black Belt Program at Middleburg Martial Arts; he has not missed a single class. I consider it a bonus that I have met some very nice folks there and will be joining the parent club. Again, thank you for working with us and I deeply appreciate all that you have done for my family. If I can ever be of help to you, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Very Sincerely,
Debbie

I used to walk into daycare and cringe as my kids were clinging to me and how loud it seemed as they screamed when I left them. I have been at Middleburg Martial Arts for 2 years now and since day one, they started saying “Aw Mom you’re early” as I picked them up. Keep up the good work!

Dear Middleburg Martial Arts,
Brandon took a two-year break from Tae Kwon Do since moving here in 2005. He really missed his training and he wanted to continue to pursue his ultimate goal: Instructor.
We did some research, visited a few places, and within a few days joined one. Much to our dismay, within just two classes, his father and I did not feel comfortable with a few things. We found we had to make a decision immediately after the consultation (to get the great rate). His current belt (Green) would not be honored and he would have to start all over with White. Last but not least, all equipment and tuition was more than double what we had paid before we moved here! While still in the three-day grace period, we cancelled his enrollment and RAN!
Thanks to Jasmine Hall and Robert Haines we were able to try out a free month (no strings attached J ) and could take some time to see if this was where he felt comfortable and able to accomplish his set goals. Once Brandon, his father, and me met the Instructors and especially Ms. Jan and Ms. Louise we were at peace with our decision to join.
Brandon enjoys his new friends and each class. In a short time he received an invitation to a club! He is able to wear his Green belt too! While Brandon is consistently encouraged and challenged to go the distance and believe in himself he also understands how important his grades are. All because of the positive attitudes in your facility! Therefore, a very HUGE thanks Middleburg Martial Arts. Your accolades follow you!

Thank you, Middleburg Martial Arts, for providing such a positive environment for our family. Since we discovered you in 2003, we have all learned much and grown in many ways. Aurora (Mom) and the kids were enrolled in martial arts at our former home in Pennsylvania and they all wanted to keep training when we moved to Florida. Jon (Dad) began taking classes as a complete beginner, and is having a great time. We've all improved our physical fitness, we get to spend more time together, and the tenets and codes of Tang Soo Do reinforce good behavior at home and in school. We're also learning about the ART of Tang Soo Do and how it relates to harmonious living, not violence or fighting just for sport. That's important to us.
All of the instructors show genuine concern for the students and teach well-disciplined classes while still having lots of fun! We especially appreciate the personal attention to help us all do our best. One of our favorite things about Middleburg Martial Arts is the variety of classes you offer. Of course the family class is a big hit with us, and the beginning and advanced classes really offer training tailored to one's current skill level.Being a military family, we appreciate the fact that Middleburg Martial Arts is part of the World Tang Soo Do Association (WTSDA). That way, if we have to move again we know that we can look for a WTSDA studio near our next home and continue with our martial arts training without having to start over.
Thank you again to all the instructors and staff. You are the best!

Middleburg Martial Arts has been a wonderful addition to our family. Since starting one year ago, I have noticed a big difference in my boys when it comes to respect for others and themselves. I think the biggest thing is the respect for each other. They have really learned to work together as a family and treat each other a lot better.
Self control and working hard came hand in hand with the lessons of karate. And for myself, I enjoy feeling like part of a family, making friends and having a sense of being at home. You really have something wonderful going here. Keep up the good work.

My son and I have been training in karate at Middleburg Martial Arts for about a year and we really love the atmosphere at the dojang. I noticed that since my son is taking karate, his grades in school have improved dramatically. He is more focused in school and making and achieving goals on his own. The instructors at the gym are very child oriented and they focus attention on instructing them in what is right or what is wrong. That's what I like about MMA; not only do they teach karate but also they are teaching them how to become good citizens and better persons.

My son has been training with Middleburg Martial Arts for the past 3 years. When Michael started school, he was diagnosed with ADD. My husband and I both trained when we were younger and we decided to give Marital Arts a try to help him overcome some of the difficulties he was experiencing.
Through the years, he has learned the self-control and discipline he needs to help with his ADD. As parents, we were grateful to find something to help our son. We were seeing what Tang Soo Do had done for him and at the point I decided to join myself.
I have been training for a year now and have lost over 25 pounds, medaled in the Regional Tournament and have also gained self-confidence and self-control. Training is a great way to make friends and keep your family close. You start out as friends and soon you have found another Family!!!!
Tang Soo!

We enrolled our 10-year-old son in karate at Middleburg Martial Arts almost 2 years ago. At the time, he had self control and self esteem issues at home and at school. I must admit I was surprised at the commitment and the effort he put into his training. I credit much of that to the time and dedication shown to him by the teachers at Middleburg Martial Arts. Over the past year, his confidence, behavior and manners have dramatically improved and he has consistently made the A-B honor roll each 9 weeks.
At the beginning of this school year, we decided to enroll our 8-year-daughter, as well as our son, in the Middleburg Martial Arts after school program. She had difficulty following directions and some behavioral issues at school. As a couple of weeks went by, I began to notice a change in her attitude, manners, self discipline and confidence in her abilities to complete assignments on her own. She now receives "excellent" ratings for her work habits and effort at school. The structure, discipline, and values taught by Middleburg Martial Arts continue to help our children improve.

I am the PE teacher at Coppergate Elementary school. My first experience with Middleburg Martial Arts was when they came to our school to offer martial arts lessons to our students during their recess time. Both of my children Eric, Kelsey, and Timmy took those classes. My students have improved greatly. The changes I have seen in my students at school including the level of respect has increased definitely. I get a lot of yes ma’ams now. They also increased their interest in flexibility and has helped them improve their personal fitness testing. My own child Timothy took a great interest in karate and he has improved his self discipline. ~Traci Conroy- Mother of Timmy Conroy
After only 6 weeks Laben has improved with his discipline, We went to visit friends in Texas on vacation and they noticed a drastic improvement in the way Laben listened and did what he was told the first time.

I love the family atmosphere at Middleburg Martial Arts, it’s my second home. Everyone motivates each other to reach their goals. Without the group motivation reaching black belt would have been an incredibly difficult process. The instructors truly care about each and every one of their students and their success. I’ve never been anywhere else that had better moral support for one another.
